Welcome to Slingshot Community Enterprise & Employment Centre

SCEEC as an employment education and training centre for disengaged and disadvantaged young people, aged 15-25 years. The SCEEC provides information and resources, skill development, enterprise development and support to young people who are: accommodated at the Stopover/Youth precinct*;

Attached to local housing support services in the Northern / Western region;

Young people referred by MCM and local youth support agencies

And those that are self referred.

If you are interested in self-employment there is no formal training, but pathway planning, advice, links and support.

Who we assist Young people aged 15-25 from the CBD, North & Western region who are disadvantaged and/or disengaged from employment education and training. This includes young people who are:

  • Not in school, jobs or training
  • Homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • Refugee or newly arrived
  • From a disadvantaged background and requiring support to access, participate or sustain employment, education and training
  • From a disadvantaged background and interested in participating in a social enterprise

Services

  • Youth Resource Centre: information on what to do, where to go in connection with employment, self-employment, training and homelessness services (you may need to make an appointment so call 84862130 but Not Wednesdays)
  • Diver Education and life-skills projects Step Ahead program runs the Wheels Program where young people can gain their licence while also gaining skills for employment.
  • IT Access to develop a resumes, search for jobs or work on self-employment ideas. For young people in supported accommodation and studying it provides a focussed study area where young people can get work done!
  • Prints Side Up Social enterprise development: supported by DVCP, PSU is a Silkscreen Enterprise developed by young people for young people: PSU prints T-shirt generates employment and income streams for young people, bring people together and aims to maintain a sustainable business model. Young people can learn screen printing and develop work skills.
  • Youth Voice II Enterprise Project: SCEEC is hosting the co-ordination and taining component of this project. Some 15 young people are undertaking market research in three Neighbourhood renewal sites assisted by three partner agencies: Melbourne Citymission (Braybrook & SCEEC) Brotherhood of St Laurence (Frankston) and Uniting Care Cutting Edge (Shepparton). VUT is providing training and this research is looking at how young people transition from school to further education and the world of work and also will investigate the development /sustainability of a youth consultancy-enterprise using the experience, knowledge skills, networks and resources provided by the project. The a project committed to promoting the voice of engaged and disengaged young people on a range of policy and planning issues that directly impact on young people’s lives.

NEWS & EVENTS

PSU TAKES OFF!: Print Side up has undertaken work for Earthdance, Make Poverty History, Sunshine Youth Housing, Oxfam, La Trobe University, Asylum Seekers Resource Centre and completed jobs for many other small print runs for individuals as well as not-for profits.

Print Side Up has offered paid work to young people who have undertaken training. Print Side Up employs young people on a casual basis at award rates.

Print Side Up is also speaking with organisations about one day workshops for engagement in arts based activities.

We also will be needing a new home for our enterprise in March as the redevelopment of the youth precinct gains momentum... if you can suggest a suitable warehouse facility for our temporary relocation please get in touch Contact Ann or Jon
