Melbourne Citymission (www.mcm.org.au)

Established in 1854 by the first Anglican Bishop of Melbourne, Bishop Charles Perry, at a time when Melburnians were victims of both gold fever and economic depression, Melbourne Citymission became a major provider of welfare services to the poverty stricken city.

Some 150 years on, Melbourne Citymission continues to be a major provider of community services to the people of Melbourne. It seeks to encourage and empower people to take responsibility for their own lives, to retain their personal dignity and become self-reliant, and to go on to contribute to the community.

Melbourne Citymission conducts 50 operational programs and works alongside people in providing quality welfare and education services for children, families and young people, as well as people who are homeless, frail, terminally ill, disabled, and unemployed.

Funding for our services comes from government, philanthropic trusts, the corporate sector, community groups, churches and individuals. Our services are regularly reviewed to ensure we offer the best support and encouragement available, thereby achieving maximum outcomes for the people we serve.

The primary focus of Melbourne Citymission is to work alongside people who are marginalised, at risk, disadvantaged, frail or denied access to other services in order to empower and enhance their well-being and maximize their human potential. SCEEC is a MCM project
