Welcome to Slingshot Community Enterprise & Employment Centre

In 2008, Melbourne Citymission is re-establishing SCEEC as an employment education and training centre for disengaged and disadvantaged young people aged 15-25 years.

If you are interested in self-employment that's ok too, there is no formal training, but pathway planning, advice, links and support. Also if you are interested in enterprise we have one developing at present ( Print side up a youth-led silkscreen enterprise for connection and income generation)

The SCEEC can provide information and resources, skill development and support to young people who are: accommodated at the Stopover/Youth precinct*; attached to local housing support services in the Northern / Western region; young people referred by MCM and local youth support agencies and those that are self referred.

Who we assist

Young people aged 15-25 from the CBD, North & Western region who are disadvantaged and/or disengaged from employment education and training. This includes young people who are:

  • Not in school, jobs or training
  • Homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • Refugee or newly arrived
  • From a disadvantaged background and requiring support to access, participate or sustain employment, education and training
  • From a disadvantaged background and interested in participating in a social enterprise

Services

  • Youth Resource Centre: information on what to do, where to go in connection with employment, self-employment, training and homelessness services.
  • We host and develop life-skills projects eg Wheels Program where young people can gain their licence while also gaining skills for employment. We are also re-shaping our mentoring programs to support life skills / pre-employment programs. Programs under development!
  • IT access and resources focused on employment education and training including self-employment opportunities.
  • Social enterprise development: Print Side Up, supported by DVCP, is a Silkscreen Enterprise being developed by young people for young people: printing T-shirt and posters to build community, create employment and a sustainable business model.
  • To be provided by in-house demonstration businesses: we are looking for incubator tenants who have a CSR plan to assist young people by providing employment/ work experience.
*Stopover/Youth precinct = re-development of Church Street site for youth housing / accomodation
